In a crushing operation, the balance sheet is driven by a handful of things: diesel, wear parts, maintenance and the hours each machine runs. Yet these are often booked as general expenses.
Record by machine
Issue fuel and spares against the machine that used them, and log its running hours. Each excavator, loader and crusher then has its own cost history.
From machine cost to cost per tonne
Combine machine costs with production output from the weighbridge and you get cost per tonne — by day, by product and by machine. It becomes clear which unit needs maintenance and which is eating fuel.
- Fuel per hour, per machine.
- Spares spend against planned maintenance.
- Output against material consumed.
